Linden Lab working on a next generation virtual world

Here are some interesting news about the virtual world posted on Daniel Voyager’s blog, thought I’d reblog it here!

Daniel Voyager's Blog

On 20th June 2014 Ebbe Linden went to the TPV developer meeting with some rather interesting news which is that Linden Lab are working on a next generation virtual world and that it will be in the spirit of Second Life. Apparently during the past year or so Linden Lab development team have been working already on the new project. The next generation virtual world will be closed sourced and will not be backward compatible with content from Second Life. Linden Lab believes this is a massive and exciting opportunity ahead in having a new generation virtual world. The lab are now hiring new developers to help out with the next generation virtual world.

The new next generation virtual world will be in beta sometime in 2015. More details will be announced in the next few months or so. It’s still early days!

Oz Linden with the dev team will remain working on Second Life and Linden Lab have made clear that…

Black Kite

black kite_001There is this place called the Black Kite. Honestly, I had never heard about it before, but judging by the its Flickr group postings, it has been around for a while and is very popular. Intimate seating areas to hang out on, large soap bubbles to pose on, as well as a small store, can be found on this sim. But what I really like about this place, besides it being very lovely and fun in general, is that the generous owner, Cloudy Turbo, has found a diplomatic way to make it accessible to all. This seems to be a growing trend in Second Life©, which I loudly applaud (another sim that offers free rezz-rights is The Trace). Miss Turbo has her private home on this sim, which is understandably not accessible to the public. But she offers rezz-rights, and even the option to set home, for the rest of the sim to all who join the Go Fly A Kite group in-world. Cloudy only asks that people adhere to a few simple rules, which are posted in the Covenant. Bravo Cloudy Turbo and thank you kindly for sharing your beautiful place with us all! Hopefully other sim owners will be inspired and follow suit.

SLB11 Sneak Peek Preview: Slave by Igor Ballyhoo

slave_003The Second Life© 11th Birthday community celebration is around the corner and all kinds of preparations are going on. The event will open on June 22, 2014 and close one week later. Art exhibits, live music, debates and other events can be enjoyed on 11 sims, all inspired by the words of Winston Churchill: The empires of the future are the empires of the mind. To find out more, check out the SL Community Celebration blog.

One of the exhibitors at this year’s SLB event is the artist Igor Ballyhoo. He has created a statue entitled Slave, which he completed the other day. The statue is large and black, its extremities held together with a disjointed spine that extends as a holding mechanism of sorts for a TV. The head of the figure consists of one large white eye only and the TV has a snowy appearing screen. This work of art depicts a common state of man in our modern society, namely, man addicted to the screen. As so often noticeable in his other creations, Igor also in this work masterfully ties in aspects of the surreal. The result is a quite powerful work rich in symbolism.

Summer 2014: Little Striped Dress

I don’t know about you, but wherever I go in Second Life© these days there is lag. Lag, lag, and more lag. Makes it hard to walk, stand, type, or do anything really, I’m sure you know what I mean. Anyway, enough complaining and on to the post at hand! I found this very cute little striped dress by Maitreya at Collabor88 the other day. I love the length and the casual flow, it is just really light and airy. This is the perfect outfit to run around outside in, barefoot in the grass, frolicking around. Oh, and the location above is NorderNey again, maybe I am just too lazy these days trying to find good photo locations, but also, really, it is there a more perfect summer sim then this one in Second Life right now?

VVON VOICIC™ Skin Walker Casting Video

I just had to reblog this post of the incredibly cool casting machinima by Forren Asford from Canary Beck’s blog. Wow!

Canary Beck

I’m pleased to share this very slick, short machinima video with you – in part because I greatly admire Forren Ashford’s work in Second Life, but also because she was kind enough to invite me to do the voiceover work for this. This is our latest collaboration, and I’m sure it won’t be our last.

Turn up your sound and go 1080p HD for the best viewing and listening experience.

VVON VOICIC™ is a Concept House – they create concepts films. This sample is a short video calling for people to take part in their upcoming projects.

Forren Ashford, whom I’ve had the pleasure to collaborate with on all four of the very popular Paradise Lost in Second Life Trailers, admits “it’s a very vague and undefined definition- but we are not an agency.”

I asked her a bit more about what concept films were used for, and she replied: “Nothing specifically, VVON VOICIC™ is…

Summer 2014: Easy Breezy

summer_002I find my self again on the beautiful sim NorderNey where living is easy. Here you can enjoy gentle breezes through open doorways, lazy cats and pretty spaces to just hang out and relax. In the photo above I am wearing a beautiful summer top with a valance trim and a long, flowy jeans skirt by Nevery Lorakeet (*LpD*). It is no secret that she is one of my favorite designers  in Second Life©. Just visiting the *LpD* location itself, a gorgeous three-building shopping haven, is a treat. Miss Lorakeet’s dresses, skirts and tops are feminine and both elegant and playful. The design of each garment is well-thought out and carefully crafted. Head over to *LpD* for yourself if you have not already been there and be prepared to be dazzled: *Les Petites Details*
